Dress Code Policy

Bottoms: Navy, black or khaki/tan. Shorts, pants, shorts, skirts, skirted jumpers must be plain, solid-color twill, corduroy or denim fabric. Traditional blue jean color is OK for denim.

Tops: White or Navy with collar.  Our school also has hunter green as an available color.   All shirts must have long or short sleeves. Knit polo-type, woven dress shirts, blouses, turtlenecks as well as school t-shirts (available at school) are all accepted.  Our patriotic school t-shirt may be worn on Fridays.  This t-shirt is also available at school.

Jackets, sweaters, coats, etc.:  Any kind of jacket/coat/cardigan is OK if it meets regular dress code rules.  It may not be disruptive, distracting, display offensive language/symbols, etc.    School staff may ask students to remove jackets.  Any pullover garment that is worn all day (sweater, sweater vest, sweatshirt) should:  Have a collar OR be worn with a collared uniform shirt or official school t-shirt underneath; Must be solid white, solid navy or hunter green  On very cold days, students who walk, bike, etc. may need to wear sweatpants, etc. over their school clothes on their way to and from school.  However any clothing that doesn’t meet dress code requirements must be removed before school begins.   

Other dress code policies: The dress code does not allow clothing with colored trim, stripes, embroidery or decorations. It also does not allow overalls (with short or long pants), sweat pants, knit pants/skirts or leggings. A belt is required if the garment has belt loops. ALL shirts must be tucked in. Shorts/skirts must be mid-thigh or longer. Shoes must be safe and appropriate. Tennis shoes are preferred for safety issues. No flip flops, sandals or slides are acceptable without a heel strap. Clothes must be the appropriate size, with waist of garment worn at student’s waist. Clothes that are too loose or too tight may not be worn. A small logo is acceptable.

School administrators will determine if clothing is appropriate for school and complies with district rules.  For more specific information on the student dress code, please refer to the Code of Student Conduct.  You will find a link at the bottom of this page.

Where Are We

Floral Avenue Elementary is located in Bartow, Florida, which is the county seat of Polk County.  For zoning information check out The School Board of Polk County Website at http://www.polk-fl.net/ where you will find a wealth of information pertaining to area schools. Directions: From Highway 98 go south on Broadway to Main Street.  Head west on Main to Floral Avenue.  Go south on Floral for approximately one mile.  School is the second school on the left (red brick building).   Visitor parking is available at the front entrance of school.

Student Success

At Floral Avenue Elementary, some of the strategies we are using at school to help our students are:

b.  Increasing the amount of non-fiction text we are reading

c.  Using research based instructional strategies consistently and with fidelity

d.  Emphasizing across curriculum areas

e.  Providing extra instructional time for targeted students

 

Some ways you can help at home are:

a.  Make sure your child attends school EVERY day.

b.  Do not check your child out of school early.

c.  Have your child read at home 20 minutes each night.

d.  Monitor your child’s homework and agenda daily.

e.  Ensure that your child gets enough sleep each night.

f.  Encourage your child to always put forth their best effort.
